Hands Down Education is an independent homeschool site, one of the Hands Down family of sites alongside Hands Down Travel, Hands Down Animal Research and Malaʻe Productions. It turns a child's real interests into a complete, standards-aligned K-12 homeschool curriculum: describe what your child is passionate about — animals, space, dinosaurs, music, soccer, art — and get a structured learning plan built around it in minutes, free to try and with no account required.
Every page that carries a byline is written and published by Hands Down Education. There is no guest content and nothing on the site is sponsored.
How the interest guides are built
The 32 interest guides under /homeschool are written by hand, one real childhood interest at a time, and every one follows the same shape: an introduction, a concrete sample week across reading, math, science, social studies and art, notes on adapting the topic for each grade band, and answers to the questions parents actually ask. The deeper guides add a section for each of the four bands (K–2, 3–5, 6–8 and 9–12), a six-week scope and sequence with a portfolio output for every week, the published standards the work maps onto, and a reading and resource list.
Standards are cited from the Next Generation Science Standards, the Common Core for English and math, the C3 Framework for social studies and the CSTA standards for computer science, and only codes that actually exist are used. Books, sites and kits in the resource lists are well-known titles, never invented. Each guide shows the date it was published and the date its copy was last revised; the same dates are carried in the page's structured data and the sitemap, and they change only when the guide does.

How the curriculum generator works
The generated curricula run on an authored K-12 standards spine, not on free-form generation. For each grade and subject the sequence of skills — what a child is supposed to learn next, and why — is written in code, so the progression is fixed and inspectable, and two plans for the same child build on the same objectives. Standards references are given at the level of the published Common Core clusters, so every code a parent sees is one that exists.
Progress is gated by mastery. Each unit names the unaided performance that counts as mastery and the units it depends on; a child does not move on until the prerequisites are cleared, and a unit that has not been mastered is taught again from a different angle rather than skipped because the calendar moved. Mastery outranks the calendar. A child who masters a unit quickly is given an above-grade extension instead of idling.
The AI's job is deliberately narrow: it dresses a fixed academic objective in the child's interests. It does not decide what the objective is.
